MERCEDES AMG Petronas F1 team 2019 Pre-Season SPAIN Test 1, Day 2:
The W10 accumulates over 750 kilometres on the second day of winter testing
Date: Tuesday, 19 February 2019
Driver: Lewis Hamilton (AM), Valtteri Bottas (PM)
Circuit: Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya
Circuit Length: 4.655 km

Distance Covered: Lewis 344 km, Valtteri 414 km, Total 759 km
Best Lap Time: Lewis 1:19;928, Valtteri 1:19.535

On the second day of pre-season testing in Barcelona, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport continued their aero and set-up programme while also running a number of systems checks on the W10. Lewis and Valtteri clocked 163 laps, accumulating miles as the new car continues to work reliably.

Lewis Hamilton
It's been a good day overall. It was quite cold in the morning, so switching the tyres on was a little bit tricky, but it seemed like a few people had similar issues. We were focusing on working through our run plan and we got through everything we wanted. It's good that we're getting in a lot of mileage and we will try to increase that over the next days as we continue to discover the characteristics of this car. That's the exciting part about it - learning something new and being faced with different challenges. Everyone is working so diligently, I'm really happy to be here with everyone for the seventh year in a row and I'm excited for this journey that we're embarking on.

Valtteri Bottas
We did a lot of laps today and again managed to complete our run plan. We're learning a lot about the W10 with each run and we're building a better understanding of the set-up. The car was better balanced than yesterday, but there's still a bit of room for improvement. As you can tell from the lap times, we've been focusing on long-run work. I'll be in the car tomorrow morning, so it will be a busy evening for me, taking in all the learnings from today. It's been a pretty normal test so far; fortunately, the car has been very reliable, so that's good news.

James Allison
We're just two days in, but already a quarter of the way through the precious days of winter testing. Today was another very useful day for us, accumulating a lot of miles, proving out a lot of components and testing with both drivers several set-up avenues. The car was trouble-free all day and we added to the knowledge about the tyres and the car that we started to acquire yesterday. This permits us to build a a foundation for the second test where all the interesting running will take place.

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing
RB15 – MATTE ON TRACK
The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing RB15 takes to the track this morning in the hands of Max Verstappen at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, dressed in its 2019 racing livery.
Last week at our Silverstone filming day, the RB15 made its track debut in a special one-off livery. In recent years, we’ve kicked off the season with some memorable paint jobs – but we always revert back to our established racing colours.

2019 marks our fourth season racing in a matte livery, but the roots of the RB15’s design can be traced back to our debut Formula 1 season in 2005, when the RB1 raced in the now iconic blue, yellow and red livery.

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Team Principal, Christian Horner, said: “It’s always great to see a new car take its first run. RB15 is our first car with a Honda power-unit and it looks resplendent in its one-off livery here at Silverstone. Of course today is all about filming, but it’s also a really valuable opportunity to check that all the systems work and that the car is fundamentally in good shape before we head to Barcelona next week, where hopefully it will be a bit warmer! Now we’ve got eight days of testing ahead and it’s important that we maximise track time and get as much out of that process as possible prior to the first race of the new season in Melbourne.”

Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal, ROKiT Williams Racing: “Unfortunately, we have had to delay the start of our pre-season Barcelona test to Tuesday morning.
We have had an incredibly busy winter at Grove getting the FW42 prepared for the season ahead and, despite everyone’s best efforts, we need some more time before it will be ready to run.
“Our absolute priority is to always ensure we bring a car to the track that is the best that it can be and sometimes that takes longer than you’d anticipate or like. It’s clearly not ideal, but equally it’s not the end of the world.
“We will obviously have our work cut out to recover the time lost but we still have seven days of testing left and we will be maximising that time to prepare the car for the first race.”
