Italy's dream, host countrt,  to win this important  Tournament vanished in the most beautiful moment... Germany become European women's polo champions 2023 for the second time in its history.

The 6-2 win in Punta Ala over the Azzurre gives a success in the Ladies FIP European Polo Championship - U.S. Polo Assn. Trophy already achieved in 2018.
For coach Franco Piazza's team, the disappointment for the defeat - which came after Thursday's success against England and Saturday's against France - but also the awareness of still being at the top of European polo, so much so that the public that arrived at the Equestrian Centre (more than 3.000 in attendance over the three days of competition) at the end reserved a standing ovation for the team and staff led by team leader Alessandro Giachetti.

The organisational success remains for the event that the International Polo Federation assigned to the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation and that was played in the club that Gaia Bulgari, with her work, has restored to the splendour of the past.

«Sport gives victories but also defeats – said the president of the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation, Marco Di Paola –. Today we hoped to win: Italy fought but Germany was superior, so it is fair. However, I would like to say that today above all sport won: there were four exciting days».

Words, those of Di Paola, also shared by the general secretary Simone Perillo: «The great emotions experienced here remain, but also a prestigious silver medal for the National Team and for the whole Federation. We are proud to have contributed to the organisation of an extraordinary celebration of sport».

Presenting the awards to the teams that took part in the fourth edition of the Ladies FIP European Polo Championship - U.S. Polo Assn. Trophy was the mayor of Castiglione della Pescaia Elena Nappi:
«When I came to Punta Ala for the first time, in the 1990s, the Italian championships were the benchmark of sport.
Thanks to Gaia Bulgari, this event and the one organised a year ago represented a moment of rebirth. The European exploit is worthy of Punta Ala's three great driving forces: polo, golf, and the harbour».

Leading the medals ceremony was also the Fanfara of the Polizia di Stato.
The International Polo Federation was thus able to appreciate the organisational efforts: «It’s wonderful to be here in Punta Ala – said President Piero Dillier –. I played here 40 years ago and we lived a great event. We hope to remain in Italy as far as tournaments are concerned: in 2024 we hope to organise the Women's World Championship at Villa a Sesta and to continue supporting the international events organised by the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation in Italy».

«I would like to thank all those who contributed to the organisation of this event – said Gaia Bulgari, president of the Punta Ala Equestrian Centre, who was greeted by a standing ovation from the audience at the award ceremony –. Without the teamwork, everything we have lived this week would not have been possible».

THE MATCH Germany vs Italy started better, finding the first goal of the match thanks to Marie-Luise Haupt in the first chukker and scoring again it in the second. Alice Coria scored the first goal for the Italians, who, however, found themselves under first by two, then by three goals (two goals on a free kick by Eva Bruhl, named best player of the tournament). To lead Italy's reaction, Camila Rossi's 2-4, but shortly after came the fifth goal of the Germans (on the development of an episode contested by the Italians), with Haupt's 2-6 in the final that closed the games.
